Microsoft's Adaptive Keyboard prototype

The engineers at Microsoft have showcased a new impression of keyboard for the desktop computers. The Adaptive Keyboard incorporates a touch screen LCD above the top row of keys, which displays information such as shortcut icons or document previews.

The key characters can, however, change to show separate functions based on the software that is being used.

Hakon Strande, Program Manager, Microsoft said, "We created a concept prototype in the Adaptive Keyboard that suggests that the display capabilities of high efficiency input devices such as keyboards and mice should be as dynamic and relevant to user context as the UI on the PC screen."

The team of engineers at Microsoft looks to improvise the learning curve of software by enhancing many of the basic functions. With this concept keyboard, users can swiftly access complex functions based on visual recognition, rather than recalling a memorized shortcut layout.

The Adaptive Keyboard concept is included in the Student Innovation Contest at the ACM Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology. Strande clarified that any of the function examples have yet to be officially planned for future software updates.

Announcing the launch of TVS Gold Bharat Keyboard, Mr. S. S. Raman, Managing Director, TVS Electronics said, "We are proud to depict the Indian Rupee symbol in our keyboard and we are the first and only Indian manufacturer to do so. As the core Indian company,

Internext Explorer 9

Microsoft  will unveil the Internet Explorer 9 beta next month at an event in San Francisco titled "Beauty of the Web." Microsoft has built IE9 with the expectation that HTML5 will blur the line between Websites and native applications, and the company has built numerous enhancements in the forthcoming release.
"Developers are already working hard on some amazing new web experiences enabled by Internet Explorer 9," said James Pratt, product manager on the IE9 team, in a Thursday blog post.
Microsoft has been trumpeting IE9's speedy, hardware-accelerated HTML 5 rendering for the past several months, often by pitting IE9 against Firefox and Google's Chrome browser in handling graphically intensive Websites. However, critics have pointed out the selective nature of Microsoft's testing and noted that all of its competitors are also working on hardware fueled HTML5 rendering.
So far Microsoft has dished up over 2.5 million downloads of the four IE9 platform previews, the most recent of which was released in early August.

HTML5 Boilerplate

HTML5 Boilerplate is the professional badass's base HTML/CSS/JS template for a fast, robust and future-proof site.
After more than two years in iterative development, you get the best of the best practices baked in: cross-browser normalization, performance optimizations, even optional features like cross-domain ajax and flash. A starter apache .htaccess config file hooks you the eff up with caching rules and preps your site to serve HTML5 video, use @font-face, and get your gzip zipple on.

      jQuery

      jQuery is a cross-browser JavaScript library designed to simplify the client-side scripting of HTML. It was released in January 2006 at BarCamp NYC by John Resig. Used by over 31% of the 10,000 most visited websites, jQuery is the most popular JavaScript library in use today.  jQuery is free, open source software, dual-licensed under the MIT License and the GNU General Public License, Version 2. jQuery's syntax is designed to make it easier to navigate a document, select DOM elements, create animations, handle events, and develop Ajax applications. jQuery also provides capabilities for developers to create plugins on top of the JavaScript library. Using these facilities, developers are able to create abstractions for low-level interaction and animation, advanced effects and high-level, theme-able widgets. This contributes to the creation of powerful and dynamic web pages.
      Microsoft and Nokia have announced plans to bundle jQuery on their platforms, Microsoft adopting it initially within Visual Studio for use within Microsoft's ASP.NET AJAX framework and ASP.NET MVC Framework while Nokia has integrated it into their Web Run-Time widget development platform

      HTML5 video

      HTML5 video is an element introduced in the HTML5 draft specification for the purpose of playing videos or movies, partially replacing the object element.
      Adobe Flash Player is widely used to embed video on web sites such as YouTube, since the majority of web browsers have Adobe's Flash Player installed (with exceptions such as the browsers on the Apple iPhone and iPad and on Android 2.1 or less). HTML5 video is intended by its creators to become the new standard way to show video online, but has been hampered by lack of agreement as to which video formats should be supported in the video tag.

      The following HTML5 code fragment will embed a WebM video into a web page.

      <video src="movie.webm" controls>
      This is fallback text to display if the browser does not support the video element.
      </video>

      HTML5: Differences from HTML 4.01

      The following is a cursory list of differences and some specific examples.
      • New parsing rules: oriented towards flexible parsing and compatibility; not based on SGML
      • Ability to use inline SVG and MathML in text/html
      • New elements: article, aside, audio, canvas, command, datalist, details, embed, figcaption, figure, footer, header, hgroup, keygen, mark, meter, nav, output, progress, rp, rt, ruby, section, source, summary, time, video, wbr
      • New types of form controls: dates and times, email, url, search, color
      • New attributes: ping (on a and area), charset (on meta), async (on script)
      • Global attributes (that can be applied for every element): id, tabindex, hidden, data-* (custom data attributes)
      • Forms will get support for PUT and DELETE methods too instead of just GET and POST (see Representational State Transfer for use cases)
      • Deprecated elements will be dropped altogether: acronym, applet, basefont, big, center, dir, font, frame, frameset, isindex, noframes, s, strike, tt, u

      HTML5: An introduction

      HTML5 is currently under development as the next major revision of the HTML standard. Like its immediate predecessors, HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.1, HTML5 is a standard for structuring and presenting content on the World Wide Web. The new standard incorporates features like video playback and drag-and-drop that have been previously dependent on third-party browser plug-ins such as Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, and Google Gears.

      HTML5 introduces a number of new elements and attributes that reflect typical usage on modern websites. Some of them are semantic replacements for common uses of generic block (<div>) and inline (<span>) elements, for example <nav> (website navigation block) and <footer> (usually referring to bottom of web page or to last lines of html code). Other elements provide new functionality through a standardized interface, such as the multimedia elements <audio> and <video>.
